Why Parenting Equity?
Parenting Equity is an organization dedicated to improving the family law system in the United States. We believe that children have the right to receive equitable opportunities to be loved and cared for by both parents. Our goal is to educate the public about the inequities within the family law system across the United States, through research, advocacy and programming in an effort to create systemic reform.
Every day separated parents head to a broken system to solve its problems. By its very nature,
the court process is adversarial and the average custody case will test one’s emotional, mental
and physical endurance.
Parenting Equity exists because we believe that it doesn’t have to be that way.

Our Desired Impact
The Family Court and Criminal Court are Cousins.
If the criminal courts have been found to be inequitable then it is reasonable to believe the same exists within the family court system. A new era of reform is on the horizon for families across this country.
Our Vision
We believe that many of the issues that head to family court can be resolved or diverted simply if there was a more equitable presumption of custody and parenting time. However, it takes work to undo the harm created by an unjust system and re-educate people.
Our Team

Van Miles
Founder and President of Parenting Equity.
Van is the Founder and President of Parenting Equity. Van’s personal experience with the family
law system compelled him to create Parenting Equity and it is this experience which makes him
well-positioned to lead this organization.
As a guy with many ideas, Van believed Parenting Equity was needed in a space that rarely has
the appropriate representation. Normally when an individual has an experience, they keep it to
themselves, however, Van realized that the stories swirling about the family court system were
indicative of systemic failures.
Professionally, Van has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Morgan State University and a
Master’s In Public Administration from the Metropolitan College of New York. He has over 10
years of non-profit leadership experience and is an entrepreneur.
